SPOTS AND STRIPES 'The patterns and markings of the big cats fur coats are stunning to look at and because of this they have been hunted for hundreds of years to make coats and luxury items. It is easy to see why these coats are so attractive to us but thankfully people are beginning to realize that it is cruel to kill animals for their fur. The fur has many uses for the cat and is very important to its survival. It not only keeps the cat warm but also forms a camouflage in its natural environment, carries their scent and acts as a touch sensor, as each hair is highly sensitive to touch. Their coats are made up from two layers of fur - the short, soft, downy layer of the undercoat is covered by an outer layer of longer coarse hairs. It is this top coat which forms the pattern of the coat.' Other headers are available if you would like them - just email me and I will be happy to forward them to you
