'Recognized the world over as one of the finest and most intelligent of all sheepdogs, the Border Collie was formally used in the border regions between England, Scotland and Wales, but is now found far and wide. The breed was well established by the mid 19th century, and a comprehensive stud book and registration scheme has been in operation in Britain for many years. However, the breed was only registered by the Kennel Club in 1976, since when the dog has featured widely in the show ring as well as in obedience trials. This agile and clever dog has also been used to great effect in rescue work and as a sniffer dog.
