CATS AS COMPANIONS

'The companionship of cats has been proved to be beneficial to humans. Cuddling, stroking or talking to a cat helps us to release frustration and tension, and by providing food, a warm bed and affection a cat will give love to its owner in return. Cats soon begin to recognise and interpret the regular behaviour patterns of their owners and learn to recognise that certain sounds and actions mean they will receive food or affection. For example when you sit down to relax with a cup of tea or after a meal, your cat will often jump onto your lap for a fuss and a snooze. They know our routine from waking to sleeping and will be waiting for us when we return home because they know they will be rewarded with affection.'
