THE
EXOTIC SHORTHAIR
These
distinctive cats with their solid body, short bushy tail, round
face, snub nose and large, round golden eyes were first bred in
America in the 1960s. A program of selective breeding was
developed to produce a cat that looked like a Persian but had a
manageable coat that didn't need constant brushing and
attention. American breeders crossed a Persian with an American
Shorthair to develop a sturdy cat with a dense fluffy coat, who
was playful and alert with a calm and affectionate personality.
Altogether there are about forty varieties of exotic shorthairs
in all coat colours and patterns.'
