THE CATS WHISKERS

'A cat's whiskers perform the very important function of gathering information about the surrounding environment. Whiskers are slightly wider than a cat's body, so if the whiskers cat pass through a space - so can the rest of the cat! As well as the long stiff whiskers on their cheeks, cats also have long hairs on their face, eyebrows, nose, chin and the elbows on their front legs. these are specialised hairs which have nerve endings at their roots, making each hair highly sensitive to the slightest touch or pressure. This enables cats to judge distances and spaces accurately, which is vital when they are out hunting. if its whiskers are damaged, a cat may become less confident as it is not able to sense accurately - but the whiskers soon grow back!'
