'A Chinese breed, the Shar Pei was originally bred for use as a guard, hunter and herding dog. This is a most unusual-looking dog, with a suggestion of Mastiff in its ancestry. A squarely built dog with a characteristically wrinkled skin and frowning expression. Colours are solid black, red, cream, fawn, blue and black & tan.'
