CATNIP
AND CATS
'Most
cats adore catnip and go mad whenever they sniff, lick or eat
it. Catnip or catmint (Nepeta cataria) is a perennial plant
which can be easily grown in your garden or bought from pet
shops in a dried form. The smell of it drives cats wild and make
them extremely playful as well as having a relaxing effect on
them too. Cats are extremely sensitive to smell and the oil
found in the leaves and stems of the catnip stimulates the
pathways to the brain and produces an altered state in the cat.
They also like other herbs such as chives and parsley which
provide them with essential minerals to keep them healthy. If
they don't have fresh greenery to nibble they often eat your
houseplants instead! Domestic cats are not the only felines
attracted to catnip - lions and jaguars are also affected by it,
but not tigers!'
